Hiawatha & NOD #1 Race Report |

The Northern Ontario District of Cross Country Ontario held its first of three NOD Race Series events on January 9 and 10. Hosted by Soo Finnish Nordic, in concert with the club’s 54th annual Hiawatha Invitational race, the first event of the NOD Race Series attracted over 70 participants. Racers from Temiskaming and Walden joined a large local contingent from Sault Ste. Marie. Cold temperatures delayed the start of the classic race on Saturday, but not the enthusiasm of competitors and fans. Under sunny skies and good snow conditions, racers from the age of 6 to nearly 60 enjoyed a great day at Hiawatha Highlands. Sunday’s mass start provided additional excitement and thankfully some warmer temperatures! The award ceremony following each day of racing offered ribbons for all jackrabbit racers, sick NOD Race Series stickers for the top three youth in each category and bragging rights as the current NOD points leader for racers over 19! The club leader in points – Soo Finnish - is already planning trips to Onaping and Temiskaming to maintain its early lead. Full standings and points leaders will be posted soon on this site. Visit zone4.ca (Hiawatha Invitational / NOD#1) for complete results. And be sure to attend NOD#2 at Onaping in middle February. This Ontario Cup event should attract considerable NOD competition.
